This list of well over 100 words from Edgar Allan Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death" is a great help to struggling readers who need a quick reference for the daunting vocabulary in this chilling tale. (Sometimes the textbook just doesn't cover it all.)
The list also explains the meaning of "out-Heroded Herod."
The definitions are purposely brief and to the point for quick understanding and increased comprehension of Poe's story. The file is printable and is, of course, able to be projected.
Print out a classroom set and let students copy the words they need. Or, print out a page for each student. The words are in columns so that I could fit as much as possible on one page.
There are two pages total, with three columns on each page. Print it out double sided to save on paper.
Thanks for considering my work. Enjoy!
