This masquerade project helps students to focus on the use of symbols while creating a masque to wear to Prince Prospero's elaborate extravaganza. Criteria is set up to look like an invite. Grading rubric included.
In “The Masque of the Red Death,” Prince Prospero invites 1,000 of his best knights and dames to stay with him in a fortress against the Red Death that ravages the land. After half a year avoiding their inevitable deaths, Prince Prospero throws an elaborate masquerade ball, during which all attendants, guests, and entertainers alike dress up in creative costumes.
Your task: pretend you are invited to Prince Prospero’s masquerade; however, you must wear a mask that represents you. Choose a mask style and decorate it with symbols to represent who you are. Some ideas to display: hobbies, personality, favorites, dreams, etc. For example, if you dream of being a lawyer, you may choose to incorporate the scales of justice into your mask design; or if you are musically inclined, you may include an
instrument or music notes. Be sure to fill the entirety of your mask and color it as well.
