With this product you receive an amazing activity with an ending result of a beautiful and colorful menu for display or use in role plays and testing. This menu project is a culminating activity of a 3 to 4 week food unit which is taught to learners of Spanish or to Heritage speakers and allows your students to demonstrate in writing their comprehension and use of food and meal vocabulary. In addition to the project instruction sheet, you will also receive 5 pages of lesson plan activity ideas and a grid list of Spanish speaking countries and their corresponding nationality adjective. The instructions and evaluation are formatted as a checklist handout for seat work and the teacher instructions guide the student through the project process. Adaptations for beginner level through advanced Spanish language learners are also included. The teacher can designate key grammar elements that may be needed for the unit and students can learn and internalize words and expressions that are important to them in their discussions.
Students will use the check list to design a menu in Spanish. The menu can be a single project/craft type activity or part of a larger unit for conversation and testing. This particular menu activity is designed for use with second level or more advanced students however, it can be modified for use with younger students. The grammar focus for this project is reinforcement and authentic use of food and number vocabulary, nationalities and adjective agreement.
Are you teaching making requests? Are you discussing likes and dislikes? What about healthy and non-healthy eating habits? Get ready for lively debates on what constitutes a healthy meal. Note from Maestra Mapache: My classroom activities were primarily student directed and textbook vocabulary lists did not have a sufficient quantity or variety of terms that I or my students wanted in order to build and expand ideas. Too often, the activities were for rote memory exercises but, not sufficient for expanding into daily use. For this reason I developed my own glossaries and selected appropriate grammar based on learner level using the textbook as a support tool. Students were free to add and select the vocabulary that was more applicable to their own life had meaning beyond the textbook exercise.
As always, Maestra Mapache has first created these activities and used in her own classroom. Secondly these activities are designed to be adaptable to any of your lesson units and the vocabulary has been prepared with terminology to allow the teacher flexibility in lesson preparation.
Every effort has been made to ensure that all vocabulary is common usage however since language evolves rapidly, please share your feedback and suggestions for newer expressions.
This menu project may be purchased individually however it is designed to coordinate with my thematic bundled products; Maestra Mapache's Food and Meal Vocabulary, Powerpoint Images as well as Meal and Restaurant Dialogues and Worksheets (links will be available soon).
