Can you break the locks and make it safely back to Belmont before Shylock tracks you down to extract his revenge? Drive student engagement through the roof with this comprehensive Escape Room simulation in a race against the clock as students use knowledge of the plot, characters, setting, and events of The Merchant of Venice -- Shakespeare's timeless comedy of young love, mercy, and problematic promises!

This Escape Room is designed to test your students’ knowledge of The Merchant of Venice in a high-energy end-of-unit collaborative activity, where student groups will race against the clock to save the young lovers Portia and Bassanio from the vengeful clutches of Shakespeare's spurned money lender!


There are five different puzzles in this game, all of which can only be unlocked by correctly solving a total of 64 themed clues testing the following concepts:

• UV Flashlight Scavenger Hunt - Close Reading (five clues)

• Lost Locations Postcard Puzzle - Setting (12 clues w/ cipher)

• Caskets Secrets Scramble - Symbolism / Plot (15 clues w/ cipher)

• Cast of Characters Quote ID - Quote Identification (24 quotes w/ cipher).

• Timeline Puzzle - Chronology / Symbolism (8 clues w/ cipher)

Please note: this escape room scenario is designed to be compatible with the kit provided by Breakout EDU. Great people, FANTASTIC product, and I cannot say enough good things about how much I love their creativity, innovation, and student-centered classroom approach.
