    Money-Saving bundle of activities for studying “The Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka. Reading and assessment questions, graphic organizers, literary essay writing, and several projects to fit your classroom’s needs!

    Each activity includes a separate overview and, if applicable, deployment information.
    Reading, Thinking, and Quiz Questions: Includes reading questions to guide students and promote accountability during reading of the text. Questions are in order of the text, divided to match the text. Questions are short answer and included both recall and opinion. Assessment questions for a quiz or test is provided in a short answer format with five key questions from the text, requiring supporting details. Answer keys provided. Critical thinking questions can be used in many ways, but each requires at least a paragraph response to the question that uses supporting details. Mini-rubric included for grading.

    Graphic Organizers: Several options to choose from. Explore expectations of the story with the Expectations chart or KWL. Examine how Gregor become smore bug-like with the Going Buggy chart. Word Webs included, plus comparisons of life before and after the transformation for Gregor and his family. Answer guides provided.

    Literary Essay: choice of five essay topics for analysis. Assign one or give a choice. Rubric and planning worksheet included.

    Vocabulary Activity: list of vocabulary words (and two phrases) from the text. Students create a list of definitions, either before reading or during. Includes student terms list, task cards, and answer key.

    The Clerk's Report on Gregor Samsa: Students will examine the scene where the clerk from Gregor’s work comes to see why he has missed work that day. This is a short writing activity. Several versions offered, including a focus on dialogue written, a focus on point of view writing, and a focus on formal, objective writing. Rubrics included.

    Grete's Transformation Activities: Gregor is not the only one impacted by his metamorphosis. Grete changes as well. This activity includes four options for students to explore Grete’s transformation: an expository essay, a multimedia analysis project, point of view narrative retelling or point of view graphic novel. Rubrics included.

    Write Your Own Story: Students will analyze the text to identify select literary devices, including theme, main idea, and mood. Then they will use several of those elements in writing their own story about a metamorphosis. Includes options for a narrative and a graphic novel, with rubrics. Literary analysis and reflection worksheets included.

    Culminating Projects Set: Set of 9 projects. Complete one or more projects related to material in and beyond the text. Includes Task Cards, Student Menu, and Choice Board versions, plus rubrics. Grete’s transformation project choice overlaps with Grete’s transformation activity set. Point of View writing can overlap with Clerk’s Report Activity, unless Clerk’s point of view is excluded from choices. Flexible options for differentiation and student choice.

    Personal Metamorphosis Narrative Essay & Activities: This activity works well for self-reflection about change or growth—great as a stand-alone activity, or a tie in for stories about change, like “The Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka.
