The Basic Skills Test (BST) is a diagnostic test designed to remediate missing skills for the middle school student. The items on this test are fundamental to the success of a math student leading to Algebra. Success on the BST is a combination of two skills: 1) Attention to details and 2) Knowledge of specific skills necessary in all Middle School math classes and beyond.
The Basic Skills Test is also a great tool for EL learners since minimal language is used throughout the test as well as the support problems.
The document contains 10 versions of the Basic Skills Test with answers to each test. One version can be used as a practice test, others can be used as remediation assessments. In the end, it should be the intention to be able to complete each type of question on this test with 100% accuracy.
Each problem also contains a corresponding worksheet of 20 support problems. Students can have extra practice on the specific skills they are getting wrong, with the hope of retesting for a perfect score on the retest.
