The Midnight Fox is a gentle story about a very ordinary boy who finds the courage to do something extraordinary. Tom’s parents are going to Europe without him, so he must spend two months at his aunt and uncle’s farm. Tom sees a rare black fox and develops a fascination for it. The boy enjoys watching her and protects her secret. But when the fox angers the family by making off with a few chickens, Tom has to figure out exactly what to do to save the rare fox from his uncle, who has mad fox-tracking skills. This story is a great one for teaching CCSS R.L. 5.6! (Lexile 970)
