This activity has been designed to assist students with learning the content vocabulary in the short story, “The Minister’s Black Veil.” When students don’t understand and use content related vocabulary their comprehension of the material becomes null and void.
When teaching my 11th grade ELA class, I found that the more activities I included with rigorous reading assignments the more my students participated and fought to understand the material. Activities totally helped and motivated my struggling readers.
Instructors can assess student learning for this activity by observation of student participation and accuracy while playing the game. Instructors may encourage or require that students take notes on the student vocabulary list template while playing the game and then have each student turn in their notes for a grade.
