Reading guides and novel units are great! I use them all the time in my classroom. The only problem with reading guides and novel units is...sometimes you don’t want all of that. There are some books that I read aloud in my classroom because they are beautiful. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo is one of those books. I came up with this read aloud guide, because that was what I needed. I needed questions that would spark classroom discussions so that the magic of this story would not be lost. I tend to read this book to grades three and four, and I feel that they are too young to truly “get it” on an analytical level. I find that using the book for a read aloud and then facilitating classroom discussions works perfectly for us. Whether you use The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane for a read-aloud/guided discussion, a classroom book club, or just need a little supplement for your classroom reading experience, I hope you enjoy!
