I use this when I show the movie The Mission to my students. The movie is great for any Church History class addressing the issue of the church in the modern world (dealing with political entities). The themes of redemption and forgiveness are also beautifully depicted in this classic film. I've adapted 17 short answer/short essay questions as a companion to the movie that prompt students to analyze and reflect critically on the themes.
Here is an example of one question: 15.) What issues of obedience and specifically “blind” obedience does the movie raise? Think of the cardinal, the Jesuits, and the soldiers attacking the mission. Who is really Catholic and who doing God’s will?
