This product is a unit of 10 lessons, which is set up as 6 mini- modules or Levels.
Level 1 (2 lessons) - covers writing chemical formulas, and calculating % composition of element or elements in a compound
Level 2 (2 lessons) - students introduced to the mole and explore its uses in calculating empirical formula from various data
Level 3 (1 lesson) - writing and balancing chemical equations to describe reactions.
Level 4 (1 lesson) - using balanced equations to determine mass/moles of reactants or products from data provided
Level 5 (2 lessons) - determining moles of gases and using chemical equations to determine volumes of gases used or produced in a reactions
Level 6 (2 lessons) - determine moles of aqueous concentrations and using the ole concept to calculate concentrations of solutions and solve problems involving titrations (volumetric analysis)

PowerPoint 80 slides, which contain the introductions to each lesson.
A student workbook (55 pages) that accompany the presentation and also incorporates multitude of problems to help students reason as they solve problems.
Teacher version of the student workbook with the solutions
Extension problems to accompany each lesson as extensions for fast workers or to act as homework assignments.
The suggested method of teaching is the teacher acting as a facilitator and monitor of knowledge acquisition.
Use the slides as an introduction, and then the rest of the lesson the students work through the appropriate pages of their workbook for that lesson. The students can work independently, with a partner or in groups on the tasks within the work book that is relevant to the lesson.
The teacher is then free to circulate among students to monitor progress or assist where necessary.
The lesson plans included in this package provide a necessary sequence to teach this unit, and instructions on which tasks of the workbook should be completed for a particular lesson. Within the workbook there are also three check points where you can check in with the students their progress. Lesson plans also include a few suggested lab activities to use in lesson 6.
