The Money Game is a fun way for kids to learn about coins and their values and to practice sorting, counting, and skip counting.
I play this at home with my kids and tutoring students, but it would work well in a classroom too.
We dump out our piggy bank then sort the coins by type. I encourage the kids to say the name of each coin as they put it in the correct pile, especially if they are just learning about coins.
For younger students, we just count the coins. For more advanced students, we practice skip counting and find the total values of each group of coins.
