After reading "The Monkey's Paw," students will write a narrative of what happens After Mr. White runs to the gate and sees "a quiet and deserted road." The rubric is included, which explains all the requirements for the narrative. I let my lower-level students work in pairs. These elements are graded: dialogue, grammar, descriptive details, chronological order, continuity, setting, mood, point of view, and audience. Each of these elements is explained in the rubric. I usually tell my students not to lose this paper because I use them to make notes and grade while they are presenting their narratives.
