The Moon and it’s Phases – A Third Grade SmartBoard introduction is a comprehensive SmartBoard Notebook presentation of the third grade science text about the the Moon, characteristics of the Moon, and it’s basic phases. It is in line with the Virginia Grade 3 Standards of Learning:

3.8 The student will investigate and understand basic patterns and cycles occurring in nature. Key concepts include
a) patterns of natural events such as day and night, seasonal changes, simple phases of the moon, and tides;
The presentation includes information about the Moon as a satellite, Moon phases, phase identification, differences between the Earth and Moon, and what craters are. Vocabulary is included. It also includes 2 SmartBoard activities that are also adjusted to PDF files. The white-backed SmartBoard slides are also included in case adjustments need to be made to best suit your class. The first activity is Venn diagram comparing/contrasting the Earth and Moon. The second activity has students identify through a picture which of the four Moon phases is illustrated and where the Sun belongs in relation to the pictures. This is an interesting and quick SmartBoard lesson.
