Knowledge-based crossword puzzle based on the novel by John Steinbeck.
There are 25 clues. These are the names of all major and minor characters, and key locations from the novel.
This resource/activity could be used as an in-class assignment or as homework, to help revise the text, or just for fun. It is a summary quiz, designed to be used after reading the novel. I've tried to include as much detail as possible, so that students are actively learning while working on this light fun task. A good way to use the crossword is as an open book test or scavenger hunt. This really gets students working. They also seem to enjoy the crossword format, which many don't even consider to be work.
There is a word bank to assist students. You could redact this to make the activity more challenging.
I'm using a one page format for the crossword. Students seem to find it easier to complete the task when the clues and grid (and word bank) are on a single page. This also cuts down on photocopying/printing costs.
Download the preview file to see the grid and the words used in the puzzle. This is the puzzle solution. The solution also comes as page 2 of the puzzle.
