Does Montressor get away with murder? Are the skeletal remains found Montressor's victim, Fortunato? It's up to the students to decide. This fun cross-curricular activity helps students dig a little further into Poe's famous short story "The Cask of Amontillado" and use what they've learned in science classes. Students use the short story, an evidence sheet from a crime scene, and, if the teacher chooses, a reference sheet to determine the gender, race, and age of human remains. This 12 page packet contains a cover sheet, 3 different evidence sheets (with guiding questions or without), final report template, notes for the teacher, reference sheet, rubric and a memo from the "Global Police" asking for the students' help to solve the mystery. As added mystery, ask students the significance of the case file numbers. This activity can be easily used in collaborative groups or individuals.
