These are DO NOW activities to use as a bell ringer to the start of class for The Most Beautiful Roof in the World by Kathryn Lasky. It gets students editing and proofreading while also staying on topic with the text. The quotes come directly from the text. Students will receive the quote from the text with errors, and teacher has the fixed version to share after students complete. These can be written on the board by the teacher or copied onto a white board program such as a Promethean or Smartboard. Just copy the fix it to project, or cut the answer key and provide a copy to the students to fix on paper. For this activity students will identify the importance of the quotation, and fix the errors, without looking in the text. Find an example from the first section, “Pioneer in the Rainforest” below. Great for getting students COMMON CORE ready by analyzing text as well as grammar and spelling.
Pioneer in the Rainforest
1. Fix It, Paragraph 2
