Are your students reading The Music of Dolphins by Karen Hesse? Do you have English Language Learners in your classroom? If so, this resource is for YOU! There are 4 activities in this package.
First: A 16 word vocabulary match with answer key included. These words are from the book as a whole (not just one chapter).
Second & Third: There are two "phrase matches" to help students understand what Mila says when she uses figurative language. For example, on p. 97 Mila says “My chest burst and my skin broke with needles of pain, while my head exploded.” What she means is, "I almost drowned when I went too deep."
These are from specific chapters. One is from pages 89-100, and the other is from pages 179-181.
Fourth: An excellent plot summary sequencing activity. Students can cut and sequence 11 plot events, and then retell the story using sequence words. They can also practice changing verbs to the past tense (great for ELs!). Answer key provided.
(P.S. Check out my simile and metaphor worksheets for this same book!)
(P.P.S. The thumbnails sometimes show the top of a page (where is says Name) at the bottom of the previous page. It does not appear that way when you download the file.)
