Product Description
"Nobody reads a mystery to get to the middle. They read it to get to the end. If it's a letdown, they won't buy anymore. The first page sells that book. The last page sells your next book." Mickey Spillane (American crime novelist ~ 1918 - 2006)

Want to make reading fun ?

Wondering what to do with your service learners ?

Used to your standard book club fizzling out after a month or two ?

Tired of the typical book club with book selections that are boring ?

Wish you had an interesting way to expand students' vocabulary ?

The Mystery * Bingo Book Club takes a unique approach and can be done in class or as an after-school activity.

Librarians.
Club sponsors.
English teachers.

All can tailor this activity to their own needs.

In the Mystery * Bingo Book Club students read only mystery stories.

They get a bingo card each month.

In each square there is a criterion to be met for the book to be read.

Each book club member reads the books for the squares they choose.

Of course, the object is to get bingo.

The club meets once a month (or more frequently, if you wish) and each member tells four things which are outlined in detail about the books they read.

This can also be something for adult book groups at a community library or church or in a social or professional group or for use for you, as a parent with your own children or your own circle of friends.

This is not your typical book club in which everyone reads the same book.

This is a bit more exciting.

Club members all read different books and share specific information on them at the meeting. Once you hear what the other club members say about their books, you'll be able to diversify your own list of mystery authors.

Included here are:

1. Twelve mystery * bingo cards ~ one for each month with the criteria in the squares in English

2. A detailed explanation in English of what is to be shared about each book

3. A list of some excellent website resources to find good mystery titles & authors

And, an added bonus … This type of book club is less work and preparation for the teacher or librarian. You don't have to pre-read every book and work up discussion topics.

The benefit of this unique approach is that it combines the solitary activity of reading with the social aspect of a group because each student gets to contribute and talk about the books they read to make bingo.

The students will be talking about their choice of book and your own list of must-read books is sure to grow.

The Mystery * Bingo card for each month is ready-to-use so your students will be motivated to read the books they want to read and not be tempted to use Cliff's Notes or "watch the movie version" instead.

Everything here is classroom-ready to make starting this book club a snap. (14 pages)
