This product is to further enhance your students' understanding of the novel, The Namesake, by Jhumpa Lahiri. This product includes three worksheets, designed to help your students understand and compare and contrast the Bengali and American cultures depicted in Lahiri's work. In one worksheet, students will specifically focus on the wedding traditions between the two cultures. In another, the mourning and funeral of the two cultures will be looked at. Finally, in a third worksheet students will compare and contrast the differences in traditions, customs, and culture of the Ganguli family and the Ratliff family. One of the main conflicts in the novel is Gogol's confusion over his cultural identity. These comparison worksheets between the Bengali and American families featured in the text will help increase your students' understanding of the main character's internal conflict.
