Independently: This handout prepares students for the themes that occur within "The Necklace." The students have to read and decide whether they agree or disagree with three statements.
Group Work: After the students read the statements and form their opinion, they should break into two separate groups, the Pros and Cons. Here, they can discuss and prepare an argument to defend their beliefs in an informal debate.
Reflect: The students will answer a pair of reflection questions following the debate.
Although rather simple, after this activity, my students are usually heated, curious, and ready to read the story.
