This reading of the infamous short-story "The Necklace" asks students to key on craft and structure as long as text-dependent questions. Students are asked to look very closely at how the author developed this literary work.
The reading is a total of 9 pages with 40 close read questions--this is great if you'd like to pick and choose pages, jigsaw the reading or assign the entire story. Questions were designed by reviewing craft and structure as shown in the Common Core State Standards.
Also included are two creative ways for students to express their understanding of the reading.
First, a "design a character" assignment asking students to show their understanding of characterization and the development of Mathilde.
Second, students create a one-pager visual representation of the story. Specific requirements are included along with an easy-to-use grading rubric.
