Fun craftivity to go with the book, The Night Before St. Patrick's Day by Natasha Wing. Children hide gold behind rocks taped to a backyard scene (just like the leprechaun hides the gold in the story)! The book is NOT included in this download; you must obtain your own copy of the book to utilize this resource.
This therapy activity takes most of my groups two 30 minute sessions to complete. Start out by reading The Night Before St. Patrick’s Day while having articulation students listen for their sound during the story. A gold coin dot page is included for students to use while listening for their sounds.
After reading and discussing the story, students create their own backyard scene with leprechaun gold hidden behind a rock marked with a speech word! Students who are not working with the therapist directly color their scene or cut out rocks while waiting their turn to practice words with the therapist. Most of the chosen articulation words in this activity were pulled from the story.
Sounds specifically addressed in this packet:
K, G, F, V, S, Z, L, L-Blends, S-Blends, R-Blends, Vocalic R, J, TH, SH, and CH.
Open-ended pages are also included in this packet for use with children working on ANY skill. For example, students working on phonemes in isolation would have a page saying, “I buried it under a rock, smooth and hard. It’s marked with a SH right in your backyard.”
Note: You may want to have student’s cut rectangles around the rocks rather than cutting on the black lines to save time.
