This book companion is perfect for SLPs and Special Education Teachers to use in conjunction with the book. The activities within the packet were designed to engage and support students as they listen/read the book. It includes activities to address the following skills: comprehension, categorization, sequencing, describing, prepositions, verbs, plurals, antonyms/synonyms, Tier 2 vocabulary, rhyming, and counting syllables.
You will receive:
Character Coins: Use while telling the story.
Links to the story: Have your students cut out each strip, then loop them together in sequential order forming a chain.
Comprehension Questions: 12 comprehension cards with picture cues (3 choices, 2 choices, and no choices) and retelling map. Cut out question cards and place Velcro on the retelling map. Every time a student answers a question correctly, they will remove the card to reveal part of the picture. Once all the questions have been removed, then students will retell the story using the map.
Why questions: Print and give a copy to each student or cut and laminate for repeated use. (6 cards)
Tier 2 Vocabulary Puzzles: Cut out the puzzles and spread out on the table. Have your students match the words with their picture and definition. (12 puzzles)
Tier 2 Vocabulary Lift & Learn Activity (page 16)
Tier 1 Vocabulary Bingo: Print, laminate, and cut. These boards can be used for identifying vocabulary from the story, identifying by description, describing, etc.
Cut & Paste Vocabulary Worksheet: Cut out the pictures at the bottom of the page and glue them next to their definition.
Vocabulary Worksheet: This worksheet can be made into a booklet to have your students record vocabulary from the story.
Vocabulary Lift & Learn: Directions on the worksheet.
Cut & Paste Synonym/Antonym Worksheets: Have your students cut out the words at the bottom of the page and glue them next to the word that means the same/opposite.
Categorization Coloring Worksheet: Have your students follow the directions on the worksheet. Once they have finished coloring, have them tell you what belongs in each category.
Cut & Paste Category Worksheet: Cut out the pictures at the bottom of the page and glue them into the correct category.
Find & Color worksheet: Provide each student with a worksheet. Have them look back in the book and locate the described item. Once they locate the item, they will color in the circle.
Race 2 Rhyme Worksheet: Students use the book to find rhyming words or generate them, then record them in the appropriate column. The student that locates /generates the most words wins.
Compare & Contrast Worksheet: Have your students write similarities/differences in the diagram. (3 worksheets)
Plural Puzzles: Cut out the cards and spread on the table. Have your students match each noun with its plural form. (6 puzzles)
Regular/Irregular Verbs Worksheet: Use a pencil and a paper clip to make the spinner. After flicking the paper clip, record the verb onto the chart on the left and provide the other tenses of the verb.
Let’s Talk About It Verb Cards: Have your students read each sentence and determine what tense the underlined verb is in, then color in the appropriate circle.
Describing & Sentence Writing Worksheets: Have your students write words in each bubble that describe the object, then write a sentence. (3 worksheets)
Cut & Paste Preposition Worksheet: Have your students cut out the pictures at the bottom of the page. You will need to give them directions on where to place the objects. Students will glue the object in the appropriate location.
Preposition Matching Cards : You can use these cards different ways. 1) Use the cards on pages 41 & 42 to elicit prepositional phrases from your students. Have them answer the question. 2) Use both sets of cards on pages 41-44 as a matching game. 3) Use the cards on pages 43 & 44 to elicit questions from your students. Have them develop a question by looking at the picture. (12 matching sets)
Preposition Fill –in-the-Blank sentence cards : Have your students complete each sentence with the appropriate pronoun. (6 cards)
Counting Syllables Cards: Have your students say each word and determine how many syllables the word has. The hands on page 48 can be used to point to the correct answer.
My Speech Words Worksheet: Have your students write words from the story that contain their sound in each star.
