The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier is a Junior Library Guild Selection, Amazon “Best Book” for May 2014, and an ABA “Indie Next” pick. It received stars from Kirkus, School Library Journal, Shelf Awareness, and VOYA.
It is a wonderful book that will appeal to boys and girls. It is a story of Irish orphans, an evil tree, and how a family is rescued and restored. It is rich with suspense and chills. It is so much more, though. The lessons about what people want and what they need are skillfully taught.
My students absolutely loved this book.
