PowerPoint notes for lesson on the Nitrogen Cycle with student follow-along, "fill-in-the-blank" style graphic organizer. Includes "Teacher Version" with answers to check-for-understanding questions and "Student Version" without answers. Also includes "Exit Ticket" formative assessment with answer key.
Covers the basics of the Nitrogen Cycle, including nitrogen fixation and denitrification, nitrogen's role in the biosphere, and the concept of nitrogen as a limiting nutrient, which allows for scaffolding future lessons on eutrophication and nitrogen pollution.
Students follow along with PowerPoint on their own graphic organizer-style notes, filling in key concepts and vocabulary as they go. Students may view the PowerPoint independently, in small groups, or as a whole class, teacher-lead activity using Smartboard or overhead.
Afterward, check for understanding using the "Exit Ticket" assignment at the end of the student notes. Students may self-assess using the included answer key or teacher may collect for a grade.
This activity is ideal for
--independent or small group work
--whole-class learning (on smartboard or overhead)
-- introduction to biogeochemical cycles
--introduction to eutrophication
