This resources is just what you are looking for. Here is a list of what you will receive when purchasing this supplemental packet to help boost your students interest in this fabulous musical tale.
1. How Many Sounds? - The students will draw a line from the various characters from the story of the nutcracker to various rhythm notation patterns to match their "rhythm of the words." Example - Nutcracker = "ti-ti-ri" and Prince = "ta." There is also an answer key included for this activity.
2. The Nutcracker; Color By Notation - The students will color the Nutcracker living room scene by the rhythm notations mentioned in the provided coded key.
3. The Nutcracker Ballet Listening Glyph (2 Versions) - This listening glyph is a very basic/generic glyph that can be used with any excerpt/movement from the entire work. There are also 2 versions provided, one would be appropriate for upper grades as it uses advanced vocabulary when referring to tempo and dynamics. The other version is appropriate for lower elementary due to the nature of vocabulary being simpler terms in regards to tempo, texture, etc.
4. What Do You Hear? - This activity can be used to test the listening and identification skills of your students. Directions are included within the document. This activity could easily be used as an assessment piece.
