Hello! “The Observation Aquarium” is a fun class activity that I use to introduce the Scientific Method to students.
The activity proves to students that using their observation skills during a scientific investigation is more than just a “quick glance!” Before students learn the actual steps to the Scientific Method, we discuss how scientists observe using tools such as hand lenses or microscopes to look at small objects. We also use our senses to observe, and our sense of sight and touch are featured in this activity.
This activity is designed for 3rd grade level, and can be adapted for other grade levels. This is written as a 1 day activity.
This project includes online video instructions for making the observation aquarium. Once constructed, this aquarium serves as a nice display that can be used for years to come!
