The Odyssey - Allusions in Song Lyrics Close Reading Project

Throughout our reading of The Odyssey, we spend a lot of time talking about Allusions and how so much of what we read, watch, and listen to today alludes back to Greek Mythology.

After reading, I like to have students complete this group project, in which each group is assigned a set of lyrics that have Odyssey allusions throughout. They must do a close reading of the lyrics, analyzing the allusions, as well as figurative language and more. Then, they present their findings visually, either on a poster or a digital presentation.

This product provides a teacher direction page, a 2-page project overview sheet for students that includes step by step directions, 10 pages of contemporary song lyrics, and 3 grading rubrics. To assure that the rubric formatting comes through correctly, there are 2 versions of each.
