This is one of my favorite lessons of all time. It corresponds to Book 12 of The Odyssey, when Odysseus and his men meet the Sirens, Charybdis, and Scylla. The lesson gets students thinking about what monsters show us about the society which created them. At the end, students create their own monsters based on their own fears, dislikes, and misunderstandings.
The lesson includes a lesson plan, a Power Point, an in-class reading guide, and the Create Your Own Monster assignment.
