This is a four-page viewing guide for the film O Brother, Where Art Thou?, intended for use after students have read The Odyssey. Each page is intended for one class day of viewing (approximately 30 minutes per day). Each page provides a grid for student comparisons between the texts, as well as a more expanded analysis/synthesis question for students to expand on their understanding of the adaptation.
I frequently use viewing guides such as these when showing films as supplements to classroom texts. I have found that this format helps to provide enough leeway for all students to be successful, while still holding them accountable for showing depth and support for their responses.
