This script writing activity asks students to make a modern adaptation of Book 5 or Book 9 of The Odyssey. This activity asks students to synthesize what they know, adapt it into modern times, and create a script format. It also asks students to include their own epic simile, epithet, and other epic traits they have been learning about while reading The Odyssey.
This comes with a pre-writing section for students to fill out before writing their script and a rubric for grading. This is a fun activity for students that also uses higher-level thinking skills. I have my students act out their scripts for extra credit after writing them. It's always a lot of fun and I'm always impressed with what students come up with.
