The One and Only Ivan is a children's book by Katherine Applegate.
After reading the novel, have the students summarize the setting, characters, plot and one of the themes.
The students will also have the opportunity to choose another title for the novel and write sentences using some of the vocabulary.
An acrostic template is included as well.
Before, during or after reading the novel, the students can work on the word search that contains 50 vocabulary words. (Answer sheet included.)
A sentence writing sheet is also included where the students can write sentences using some of the vocabulary words found in the word search.
There is also a word sort sheet where students can review parts of speech while using the 50 vocabulary words.
The students will create a comic strip using four panels showing the events that lead to Ivan and Ruby being taken away to the zoo.
They will also create a poster to advertise the book. A poster rubric to assist in assessing is also included. (Great for media!)
Use this mini package as an assessment tool as well!
Great for Special Ed. and ESL students too, as it is easy to follow with definitions of each part of a story, setting, characters, plot, etc.
