Help you students learn about the westward expansion of our country. My students will readily practice close reading skills if they are reading something interesting. This unit tells basic information about the Oregon Trail. The practice activities are primarily designed around 2nd grade standards, but there is higher thinking involved in some of the activities and would be, I think, good review for 3rd graders.

The activities focus on: key ideas, main idea and supporting facts and using text features. The activities require re-reading or using the text to answer text-dependent questions.

There are Lesson Ideas for each section with more information.
