Over the past year YOLO has taken off among my students. They like to yell it whenever they are about to do something less than admirable and they like to wear YOLO bracelets and hoodies.
YOLO stands for You Only Live Once, but I don't think that they grasp the concept of what YOLO truly means.
I realized that my students probably have no idea that YOLO is a modern version of Carpe Diem and that perhaps I should "school" my students on the true origins and meaning of YOLO.
I created a Prezi to use the last week of school with my students to teach them the true meaning of YOLO (and what it SHOULDN'T be used to defend) before I send them out into the world.
This would be great for older students (especially those that are graduating) to get them thinking about how they can "Seize the Day" in a meaningful way rather than a ridiculous and harmful way.
***Note: One of the video clips uses the word, "Hell" so it should probably only be used for upper middle and high school students
