The following 7 argument prompts for The Other Wes Moore are modeled after the AP Language and Composition argument prompts. Each prompt gives context and a specific passage from the book, as well as an argument question.
The Other Wes Moore is our 2016 summer read. Even if a student hasn't read the book, they can still respond; a student will simply have more distal evidence if they've read.
While they are modeled after the AP exam, the difficulty of the questions are appropriate for any advanced high schooler (9-12). The prompt stems include "argue your position," "argue the extent to which," and "defend, challenge, or qualify."
An instructor could use the prompt(s) as bell work, a discussion question, and/or a writing assessment based on the ability of his/her students.
