This fun activity for The Outsiders gives students a chance to depart from their usual discussion roles. Simply cut out the cards, tape them under the seats in your room, and invite students to discover their roles for the day. Swear them to secrecy and begin your discussion. Students will enjoy the change of pace, and are likely to realize that it IS possible to get out of the ruts and roles they have been in. If you have time, complete the reflection at the end of your discussion to help students carry the lesson forward into other discussions.
