Based off of The Writing Revolution method of practicing outlining by providing students with activities that first prepare them to identify relevant topic sentences and correlating details, this activity sets up students for success with identifying CHARACTERIZATION in the novel The Outsiders. Students will first identify the most relevant topic sentence for the question, and then pick the most relevant 3 details to support the topic sentence. Finally, there is space for students to practice writing a concluding sentence.
Abbreviations in the details correlate to The Writing Revolution abbreviations and symbols.
This works great as a handout practice OR set up like a breakout game! Give students a clue/code after each section or give them the key after completing the whole thing!
Works best at the beginning of the novel, but applicable at any point.
Also ties nicely to the "unelaborated paragraph" activity available in my store!
