In this activity, students compare the poem, Nothing Gold Can Stay, by Robert Frost, to the circumstances in the novel, The Outsiders, and write a paragraph response with cited evidence from the text to support their thoughts. This gets students to use their critical thinking skills and really dig into the themes and the conflicts in the story. Answers could definitely vary, depending on what evidence the students use to support their response. The teacher could also have the students do a Jigsaw read of the poem in small groups first to really dissect it before writing individual responses.
