This ELA reading comprehension tests for The Outsiders was written for use in regular and inclusion eighth grade classrooms. In addition to the tests, this free sample includes a character study guides for students, several modified sections, and an answer key for teachers.
The word “modified” only appears on the teacher’s answer keys. Therefore, you will have to sort these pages out when printing. All modified questions are in the sequencing, and character identification portion of the test and are on separate pages.
This test has 59 questions and is made up of multiple choice; sequencing; true/false questions; and character identification. The test is easy to correct and provides an accurate tool to check student’s understanding of the material.
In keeping with the Common Core Standards, page numbers from the book are provided for each question giving the teacher the choice to encourage students to use the text to find their answers. The questions are designed to test: identifying literary terminology, recognizing cause and effect; recalling facts and details; comparing and contrasting; understanding sequence; making predictions; finding word meaning in context; identifying author’s purpose; drawing conclusions and making inferences; and interpreting figurative language.
Experience proves that the more competent students successfully answer the questions using recall, while less competent students rely heavily on using the provided page numbers and the text, making these tests useful tools to help the overall student population become more confident readers.
Tests for the entire book are available on my website and your will want to check out my vocabulary tests for this novel.
