This is a complete set; four tests cover the whole book. These four ELA reading comprehension tests for The Outsiders were written for use in regular and inclusion eighth grade classrooms. In addition to the tests, this package includes character study guides for students, several modified sections and answer keys for teachers. This complete package includes 88 pages. There are between 55 and 60 questions per test.
The word “modified” only appears on the teacher’s answer keys. Therefore, you will have to sort these pages out when printing your unit. All modified questions are in the sequencing, and character identification portion of the tests and are on separate pages.
Each test is made up of multiple choice; sequencing; true/false questions; character identification. The last test also includes a quote section. The tests are easy to correct and provide an accurate tool to check student’s understanding of the material.
In keeping with the Common Core Standards, page numbers from the book are provided for each question giving the teacher the choice to encourage students to use the text to find their answers. The questions are designed to test: identifying literary terminology, recognizing cause and effect; recalling facts and details; comparing and contrasting; understanding sequence; making predictions; finding word meaning in context; identifying author’s purpose; drawing conclusions and making inferences; and interpreting figurative language.
Experience proves that the more competent students successfully answer the questions using recall, while less competent students rely heavily on using the provided page numbers and the text, making these tests useful tools to help the overall student population become more confident readers.
