This package includes 100 high frequency words as determined by Gay Su Pinnell & Irene C. Fountas in Word Matters: Teaching Phonics and Spelling in the Reading/Writing Classroom.
I recommend playing with no more than 15 words at any one time so you can create 6 or 7 decks of cards with this one download.
This card game is a variation of Old Maid. It also works well for the games Concentration and Go Fish.
To play like the game Old Maid, choose the fifteen or fewer sight words you want to work with and make sure you have two of every card plus one Fox card. Deal out all cards to players; it doesn't matter that everyone might not have the same number of cards. Players can lay down any matches that they have in their hand. Players take turns offering their cards, face down, to the player on their left. That player selects one card from the hand and adds it to his/her own hand. If it makes a match, he or she can lay it down. Be sure that children read the words when they lay down their matches. Continue playing until all matches are made and someone is left holding the Fox card (equivalent to the Old Maid).
