Students will be shown the front of a box with LEDs, brass fasteners and battery circles. They will be informed that on the inside of the box are three separate circuit lines. Using teacher provided measurements, and their background knowledge on paper circuits, they will problem solve and hypothesize the outline/circuit diagram of all three circuit lines. Once they have a drawn plan for all three circuits, they will attempt to create their own version of the Teachers' box.
This project requires the students to use higher level thinking and problem solving skills because they cannot, at any point, see the inside of the box.
Before this lesson, students will need to have already learned about and practiced making simple, parallel and series circuits with conductive tape, LEDs and coin cell batteries.
