The Past Is Present - Video Brainstorming on Black History Issues

Google Slides™

Description
In this subset from the full Past Is Present WebQuest, you get the compelling introductory slides with engaging videos on six important issues and a mindmapping activity.
The six short videos are a great stimulus to expose students to issues that carry on from US past history into present day life for Black American community.
The six issues are:
- Redlining (long-term housing discrimination)
- Racial Violence (lynching and hate groups)
- Confederate Symbols
- Gerrymandering (and voter suppression)
- Economic Disadvantage
- Mass Incarceration
These are obviously real, rich and relevant topics, but the videos have been chosen, not to shock, but inform and inspire further understanding. The simple Mindmapping activity is a quick and easy way to help student see how much they can expand their knowledge.
This is a great way to save you time investigating the issues and finding excellent, short video introductions. You can use these slides as a springboard for deeper learning or as a way to broaden and deepen your students' understanding of Black History (and present).
With the Full WebQuest, you get complete teaching notes for each slide, active links, and all the student guides and scaffolds.
