These task cards are meant to get students digging deeper into John Steinbeck’s The Pearl. They would also make great writing prompts or group discussion starters. Students should be able to use their books to provide in-depth answers that cite examples from the text. These questions are deep, multi-layer inquiries into the following:
-Questions pertaining to each part (chapter) of the novella
There are a total of 52 questions (single-sided cards)!
I have also included a blank response sheet for your students should you choose to use it instead of notebook paper.
In addition, I have put all the questions from the task cards onto response sheets for use with the cards or without. Awesome!
AND, I have also included a bonus four-square sheet (one per chapter) that has students keep track of literary elements in the novella. I give one per chapter to each student, and then allow them to use it on an in-class essay, which I’ve also included a prompt and rubric for!
There is a ton of great material in here!
*These questions are different than the ones in my unit pack.
Use these however you’d like! They are meant to spur thoughtful answers and discussion amongst your students. I recommend this product for grades 8 (or 7H) and up, but certainly you know your students!
Thanks, and happy teaching!
