The Pearl by John Steinbeck Chapters 1-3 Figurative Language Board Game
Do your students have difficulty understanding and identifying figurative language like simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, and synecdoche? If they do, don't just give them another boring worksheet. Give them this board game that focuses on these types of figurative language found in the first half of "The Pearl," by John Steinbeck.
Students are broken into team with one student acting as game show hosts. This game board contains 24 examples of the actual figurative language found in the story. Students are asked to identify the type of figurative language and are given bonus points for interpreting the meaning of each phrase.
My kids had a blast and made more progress at understanding these concepts because they learned from each other and had fun while playing this game. Your kids will love it too.
