I am offering this as a free item because I just wanted to share the little inspirational lesson, “The Pencil”, which I think is perfect for kids, and also I wanted to share the work of this amazing artist. It seems there are many who do these pencil carvings but I know Mr. Ghetti does not sell his carvings, so that’s another reason I thought it would be OK to post this. I did the formatting on the slides and used clip art and fonts from those listed in the credits, but otherwise this work is created entirely by Paulo Coelho and Dalton Ghetti.
The lesson itself is many places on the internet; as far as I can tell it was written by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho. http://paulocoelhoblog.com/
Dalton Ghetti is a carpenter by trade and has been carving these tiny sculptures from graphite for over 25 years. A quote from Telegraph UK:
The 49-year-old said: “At school, I would carve a friend’s name into the wood of a pencil and then give it to them as a present. Later, when I got into sculpture, I would make these huge pieces from things like wood, but decided I wanted to challenge myself by trying to make things as small as possible. I experimented sculpting with different materials, such as chalk, but one day I had a eureka moment and decided to carve into the graphite of a pencil”. http://homeandgarden.com
If you share inspirational messages with your students, this is a good short presentation to use.
