I found that though many of my students had heard of and watched at least one courtroom drama on TV, they never really paid much attention to, nor analyzed it from a legal standpoint. Obviously, differences are to be found in the style of these "made for TV" episodes and real life judicial proceedings, but that doesn't mean they can't be useful. As a matter of fact, it can be make for great conversation when debriefing in class the next day. It's a pretty self-explanatory assignment that can I use with the judicial branch. they choose an episode to watch, describe the process, roles of those involved, make a judgment, and so on. I use it as an independent homework assignment but it could just as well be used for extra credit, or perhaps even shown during the school day to evaluate together as a class.
