Have students learn about the periodic table by reading a short article (2 pages) and completing interactive notes (4 pages). Students will compile information, make connections to previous knowledge, and label and color the periodic table 3 different ways. There is a wide array of information coded in the periodic table, and visually seeing that content colored and labeled helps students make sense of it all.
Students will learn about:
- properties of metals, nonmetals, & metalloids
- groups & periods (impact on atomic structure)
- properties of specific groups: alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, transition metals, halogens, & noble gases
This assignment assumes prior knowledge of atomic structure and electron configurations.
