Violet, Norman and Pippa want a pet. There are so many to choose from at the pet store. What pet or pets will they bring home?
The story is written in simple sentence structure and targets specific syntactic structures for they, interrogatives,and infinitives. The targeted structures are listed at the beginning of the story, and are underlined in the student responses on the teacher pages. Comprehension Questions, a list of words in the story containing /p/, /b/, /m/, /n/, /t/, /d/, /k/ and /g/, a data collection sheet, and 12 visual cue cards are included.

Read through the story once. DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS ON THE FIRST READ. Read the story a second time asking the questions. Children repeat the modeled structures in a sentence imitation format. Two levels of complexity are listed as possible responses.
Students can also retell the story using the pictures.
